I started playing guitar in 1997 at the age of 10 and attended private guitar lessons for 8 years. At the age of 18 I received a place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating in 2009 with a Bmus(Hons) degree in classical guitar performance and an Endorsement in Guitar Teaching. After graduating I worked as a guitar teacher both for myself and for various music schools along side my performing. I have performed with rock bands, jazz bands, metal bands, acoustic duos, classical duos and many more groups & artists. I have performed music dating from the 1500's on both lute & classical guitar, to contemporary music performed on electric & acoustic guitar and everything inbetween. I worked with the Eilidh Grant Band for 6 years performing contemporary Scottish folk music. I have performed as a guitarist, bassist & mandolin player in show bands at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, cabaret evenings as well as for amateur dramatic groups. I was hired to play guitar for my home town's 800th anniversary in the presence of the Queen. My strangest gig has to be the one where I wore an ice hockey helmet & shirt whilst improvising 7 minutes of modern classical guitar music to the themes from a piece of classic Finnish literature. At the same time a dancer covered their face in butter and improvised a representation of the characters contained within the text (if that sounds strange to you, I'd have to agree, but I am so glad to be able to have these experiences and to be able to be involved with such a rich diversity of music and performance art). The most important point is that music is about expression and whether you wish to play Smoke on the Water, Knocking on Heaven's Door, the Spanish Romance, music by Metallica, Segovia (he composed at least one piece), The Fratellis or 'simply' play the Blues, I have experience of a wide range of music and I am here to help YOU. In short I like being involved in making music and especially the music the guitar is involved with. However my passion for education supasses my love for the guitar and this is simply because I have found education to improve and enrich my life in so many wonderful ways. This is the reason for my work on soundtuition.com and my aim to create an educational resource area for guitar students. I am constantly learning new skills myself, which I believe is important in order for a teacher to remember what it means to be the student. Learning Finnish is my current challenge. It is also so important for the administrator of a music related business to be a musician. All too often the people replying to queries relating to music are not musicians and I feel this is a strange concept. I am passionate about education and keen to pass on my knowledge to others. I have a lot to offer all of my students and hopefully we'll have some laughs together along your journey to learn guitar. Thank you for spending your time reading this and please e-mail me with any questions you have. Most importantly, have a great day, whatever you are doing.
